Beirut Spice Co. was envisioned to introduce native, traditionally gathered, quality Lebanese products to the international market in partnership with each and every producer.
We are Naseem and Tina; we share a love for our home country Lebanon like many Lebanese expats out there in the world. We are fortunate enough to get to travel regularly back and forth between Lebanon and the USA, our second home. We also share a love of food, giving back to our country, sustainability, creating opportunity and building community. These, among others, are the main reasons why we started Beirut Spice Co.
Lebanon is currently experiencing the worst economic crisis in modern history. Farmers have suffered huge losses and lack the resources and support to grow their businesses. At Beirut Spice Co., we make it our mission to remedy this situation with an economically sustainable and efficient approach rather than through charity or donations. This means:
Only cultivating native, non-invasive species that have been used for thousands of years.
The Levantine region is rich in local produce and, as the saying goes, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. These plants have been living here since before humans, and they flourish along the warm Mediterranean coast and the lush Lebanese mountains naturally. All we are doing is choosing the highest quality specimens, packaging them, and delivering them to your doorstep!
Partnering with our local farmers and producers
Beirut Spice Co. gets 100% of products from the beautiful Lebanese hinterland, and we share profits with farmers transparently because we recognize and appreciate their value. They have continued incentive to work with us, and we get consistent and reliable access to our fragrant spice blends. Farmers’ wages increase exponentially because they are given entry into the international market. This means a whole lot more demand for their delicious Za’atar spice blend, ground sumac seasoning, Aleppo pepper flakes, and artisanal sea salt at a fair price.
Supporting traditional, sustainable practices
Lebanese industries have struggled due to the country’s import-dependent economy. This is harmful to local producers, who are constantly undercut by tax-free imports. Beirut Spice Co. addresses this problem head on by sourcing our spice blends from local farmers using traditional methods. We prioritize quality, sustainability, and heritage over profit margins.
